1a is NOT is Chambers; definition is the last five words. Google Italian conductors and look for one with a B to be deleted. Misprint

2d - Again not in Chambers; def is the last 4 words. Add a letter to the wordplay

17a - def last 3 words; misprint...look for synonym for rebuff that has books to remove

Though you haven’t followed the rules, Dylan (!), here are some hints.

1a Soprano, 1 letter, then Italian conductor minus B. As Ploughty said, def is day before Domingo. Misprint in last word.

2d Extra letter in word 2. Five of the first six words are represented by their initial letters. Not very well known astronomer.

17a Misprint in last word. Unusual synonym for rebuff minus Bs.

I have a full grid and see the theme and know the answer, but my first four letters of the instruction don’t at present make sense. I have three vowels intersected by one consonant. And I haven’t yet cracked the title. Can anyone help me get to sleep tonight ?

Your 3rd vowel needs to change - the corrected word is an adjective not a noun.

Ploughty, I am sorry I didn't get your 'joke' on your earlier post - probably because it followed on from your 'authorised spokesman' nonsense! *

*Joke.

OK, I've reached that point in the week where all the solving has been correctly done and the tumbleweed of the endgame is starting to blow across the withered landscape of my mind.

- I have solved all the clues and have a complete grid containing two colours, and therefore have derived the required notation for the 16 blank cell in a column to the right and a row at the bottom.

- I have a 4 word question although I am struggling to locate its first letter within its clue. The question is correct though

- I have a 25 letter instruction enabling me to locate a further set of instructions

- I have carried out the first part of the resulting instructions (5, 5, 7)

- The second part ( 4,3,3,5) requires me to interpret the sequence of the seven "consecutive letter" clues

- I do not know how to indicate within the grid that I have carried out the sequence. Will this enable me to spell out a word, which will answer the question? Will the blocked off cell imprison a captive from the other camp?

The first letter of the question is in the sixth word of 12A.

Re: second part of instruction - the word spelled to answer the question is definitely unambiguous - and ties in with the title - but it’s fair to say there seems to be a range of opinions as how to show it.

As for the barred cell, who knows? I assumed it was a letter indicating the possessive - the number of moves precluding it being possible to clue that final letter thematically - but an earlier responder answered firmly in the negative…
