Loge, re Geelong. There's no 'current' in the clue. Did you mean 'north'? The wordplay only gives 2 letters? Crikey!

Need a nudge with the “Anticipating woes …” clue please

Otherwise have a full grid and have worked out the larger than life characters. Struggling to work out how to get 42 cells though, unless there is one exception to the 180degree symmetry affecting the starting cell for “US disorders …”

No luck yet with the synonyms, but PDM can’t be far off.

I think preamble would have been clearer if the “and” in the second sentence read “that”.

Yes you're right, Granama, sorry. I did mean north. The current comes from another clue which also only gives two letters for quite a long word.

Lex. the "anticipating" means goes before as in usual abbreviation for left goes before a word for woes. The def is fingerholes of a wind instrument in Scottish.

Lexawkward, L(eft) precedes a pluralised three letter word (beginning with a vowel, obvs) for woe, the def is part(s) of a musical insrument

Not an idiot at all! You're right, this is the hardest of the year. It has taken me longer than any Listener since I started solving them in the mid nineties, even though I was much slower back then and of course didn't have computer aids.

And I still haven't bloody finished...

Now, Geelong one… current? Is not in clue. Cloudy and north maybe? But why the other 7 letters are ignored I don’t know. Yet! Are you suggesting the entry is actually only those two letters?

That was my mistake, see above. It's (C)loudy and (N)orth which provide the only letters of the wordplay. Sorry.
