I'm chugging along cold solving and looking at arrangements of the across clues. Despite the earlier help with the second clue 'One buys out...' I have failed to come up with the correct anagram (despite using a&h, i&h + every letter in the alphabet for the missing letter in an anagrammer!) so any additional help would be appreciated.
Also the 3 word game has me foxed - Bradford's can't help. I'm assuming there's a 'usy' in there somewhere?

Please hint

3-letter word for place (verb) + 3-letter word for rocks (diamonds) in 3-letter abbreviation for second, all reversed.

I have finally filled the grid after ten hours' slog. I can sort of see what the larger-than-life characters are and where they go, but have no idea what the instruction about the characters' unchecked down cells means. Enough for today - so much work for such a trivial theme!
