I'm on the verge of conceding defeat with this. Answers to the following queries may help, but I doubt it
1) Are the first two letters of the gallery clue unindicated?
2) Drink in matter cryptically (hint - no answer please)
3) Are the 2nd and 3rd letters of the Anfield answer the same as the last two of the Scottish town?
4) are the 2nd and 4th letters of the oven clue answer unindicated, and if so why is "ON" in the bloody clue?
5) Does the critical answer also mean "of a sandy colour"?

Thanks (I think!!!)

3) No

in 2, think you mean it could cryptically indicate a 3 letter word for matter. Drink is the definition

1, def'n is first four words, wordplay only indicates two letters
2. A rare clue with nothing funny going on. Def'n is last three words although not sure meaning is in Chambers.

BB, the only indicated letters in Make off... are the first and third. 3-letter word for plan minus M. The def is a rare word that means "to carry away, esp wrongfully" (that's the exact Chambers definition)

The other one, take T off a word in the clue, reverse it, add E. Def is a student at a Scottish university

Thanks Loge and Candledave. So my Anfield answer is wrong (sob). Also, and unusual for the listener, the gallery clue is flawed in that I had the answer as PRADO, which is PR unindicated, (S)ad for cancel opening of gloomy and O for old - which seems to exactly fit the clue.

PS You may need to cross reference the definition given in Chambers - it is there but not easy to find
