Making heavy weather of this. Is there any pattern to help in the way that the residual 4 letters are inserted into the radials or is it just random for each light?

Random, I'm afraid, but, once you get the song, it becomes soo! much easier:-)

I try not to be grumpy - but honestly, three weeks in and the GWIT tomfoolery starts. I received no musical education at all (unless you count being made to sing folk songs and 'Camptown Races'), so I've no idea how to read the sheet music on Wikipedia. I abandoned the Listener for many months last year, and it looks as if I'm going to have to do the same again, if 4642 is anything to go by - I'll stick to the Magpie.

Bananabean, apologies for late reply. I was otherwise engaged this afternoon. Four specific letters represent the notes and there are 23 occurrences in all.
