Wow, it's hard this week. Or my brain is totally fried after another week of homeschooling plus working!

Thought I’d move across to this thread to start the debate around music box mechanics and the endgame in general.

I’m assuming that there’s just one note per circular row - is that right?

And the pegs should be the notes that then play out this particular tune - is that right?

Assuming it starts at the top - is that right?

Anyone know how to find the definitive version of the tune as everyone I look at seems to have a different note pattern?

Right, right and right, though not every radial contains a note. The Wiki entry is pretty close, though not identical.

I can get a pretty good match for the first 19 notes with wiki but not sure how to end the tune. Doesn’t feel clearly unambiguous so I must be missing something.

Any pointers?

The Wiki entry shows 3 or 4 different melodies.

Do we use Yorkshire (H. Hardy)? If so why?

How many more notes should we highlight apart from the 4 obvious pairs?

I simply highlighted all occurrences of the four notes. That gives a pretty accurate rendition which fits the words. The last three notes aren’t quite as you might expect, but as note lengths have been taken into consideration, it works well enough.

Thanks Loge, I can see that that would be pretty close and is definitely an unambiguous way of doing it.

Perhaps it matches a version of the sheet music somewhere too!?

Will put it to bed anyway.

Thanks
