Hello, Malone,
I agree, I dislike "is like", very much!
Another pet hate is folk making a remark which ends in the word "not".
For instance, if it was raining heavily, they may say,
"What a beautiful day, not"
It grinds my gears!
Thanks. I've been away all day and am now just catching up with myself. I share your dislike of 'not' - it's only a small word but it has a big effect on me!
It's funny you mentioned Diablos. I saw this morning's clues as I was getting ready to leave, thought 'will I have a proper look?' and decided there would probably be other solvers around … it seems I was wrong!
I'm away next week, but am sure Diablos and the Forum will get on fine without me (not).
Thanks - I know how much you dislike that usage! Another of your pet hates came up earlier this week - the usual University Challenge thing, where Jeremy says 'with an average age of 22, let's meet the team.' He doesn't say it every single week, but I look out for it now!
"back in the day" , what a ridiculous expression! Any particular day in mind? Recently I heard on more than one occasion Americans stating that a relative had not died, passed away(which is bad enough), but had passed! What! Their driving test?, Wind?
Have a nice holiday. You might bump into jigjag who must be researching Sainsbury's, Morrisons etc, after all the news in the last few days. I hope he is still trying to buy jeans though and look forward to another report.

yes the use of passed is irritating. As you say, you dont know what they mean, when they are talking in the passed tense. I also dont like their use of "visit with", even worse than "meet with".
I suppose it's my fault for watching golf, but it's really irritating me when the commentators keep referreing to "po anna" grass when they mean Poa annua.
And while I'm complaining about sports commentators, have you noticed that when they say "you can't underestimate" they almost always mean "you can't overestimate..."
Yes I heard the "cant underestimate" comment a couple of times in this weeks FA Cup commentaries. Also irritating when they just talk to each - usually drivel.
