Rogissimo, l read and re-read the answer to 23a backwards and forwards and didn't pick that up. At one point I was even reciting one of his in my head. Thanks for the hint.

I can't parse 16a and can't get 17d. The two problems may be related. Any help would be appreciated.

17d is a subtractive anagram.
I haven't parsed 16a either.

16a - "area is undivided" is 1,2,3 followed by 1,1 "times" and all that goes inside 2 letter "writer".

Thanks brendan. Not surprised I didn't see that. Not my favourite sort of clue.

Jono @27 thanks for the update. And re AWARE vs AWAKE I just want to add to everyone, told ya so. 😉

Still not happy with 2D this week. I agree with the consensus that “is it” is meant to give the two letters, but is quite a stretch.

I thought AWARE better fit the definition, but wrote in AWAKE because of the topical "political" s**tstorm.

When I saw it was enigmatist I nearly gave up, but have soldiered on. I reckon I have done about one third which is better than the two I got on first read through. I did get 2d but couldn't parse it. I think I can now by assuming the two letter insert means "is it" as in "say". Of course I'd no idea what Madejski meant in 25ac as you will know my aversion to Football, but googling helped. I struggled over 12ac, but seem to have hit upon an answer, which I can't fully parse.

I still can't get 16ac and 7d has completely defeated me. There seem to be two different parsing clues in the thread above for the latter, but perhaps I've misread a clue number. There seem to be a number of latin plurals but that hasn't helped me get 23 ac. Can I have hint for one or two of the above and for 1d. Is that a name of an author? Which clue has the Australian slang term? Is it 3/13 or 14ac?

I may just give up soon.
