Thanks, chrise. I think your parsing is the same as my first, and still only viable, thought. But I think ‘is it’ as an indication of the two inserted letters is more than a slight stretch. Just to check: does your parsing also involve ‘break’ doing double duty, once as part of the word ‘daybreak’ and once notionally separated from ‘day’?
Or have I totally misunderstood you??

Thanks Chris and Quisling, I had reached the same conclusion on those two. Cycled is used rather a lot so perhaps we’ll see alternatives like ‘wrapped’ appearing.
And “is it” in the sense of ‘perhaps’ or ‘say’.

Rog,
We crossed but I read “warming” as the envelope indication, and an extension of the definition perhaps.

Morning all, like many of you I baulked at the sight of Enigmatist but think I've done pretty well .... however 7d is eluding me even though I have 23a. Can anybody help?

Thanks jono. I hadn’t thought of ‘warming’ as the envelope indicator (in which case it is presumably doing the double duty, being also part of the definition). It strikes me as a bit of a stretch, but given that I haven’t seen a parsing which doesn’t involve a stretch, I guess it’s as good an explanation as any!

Morning Neville.
7d is a name. It parses as 3,4,1,5.

OK. If I can avoid spoilers, 9a is an anagram of a word without its outside letters yes? Because my answer seems to be clogging up all the down crossers. Either that or I'm really struggling to find words and phrases that fit 2d 3d and 7d.

Hi Rocky.
You are right about 9a. Good luck with the downs!

Jono - I forgot to say thanks for relaying Pasquale’s confirmation and mea culpa. Interesting to note that, as I recall, most of us went with what turns out to have been the ‘wrong’ answer!
