In 32d isn’t “opening” the insertion indicator into a word meaning “result”?

Thought this was a great Listener. Anyone understand the title?

I finally have a full grid, but cannot parse 9,10 or 26 down, although I am pretty sure that the numeric sum of the 3 extra letters is 33 - is that correct?

All done save for the final step. I can see how the other characters in the bottom row are linked to the thematic sources but am at a loss as far as making any connection between both them and the L letters in columns 13 & 14 are concerned, so would be most grateful for any hints in that regard.

I am completely baffled as to how to complete this. I do not know which of the U choices to opt for nor what to enter in the 12th row - unless it is a fraction (singular). As to the thematic sources from the U letters to be highlighted........................?

son1ofrover1/nxe - They're also available on the 'correct' format (although not typically so, I imagine). If that's less than ideal, the example produced by the puzzle title couldn't be more so.
