The theme...
Requests may be made here for help towards the theme. The 'help' should be a pointer in the right direction, enough of a nudge to help a struggling solver... while not spoiling the puzzle for others. Any posts which reveal too much of the theme are likely to be removed.

The Listener is a unique puzzle and should be treated with respect.

Having given this an hour, I think that, for someone of my ability, it would probably be a full weekend solve. I don't have the time! On the bright side it will appeal to my masochist mates!!

There's an element of this I disliked very much, but then it all came together so beautifully I've had a complete change of mind. Loved it!

NW corner done, but I don't understand my solution for 2d - it fits some of the wordplay, but I can't see all of it.

My main worries, at present, are 18 ac, where I think I have the first 3 letters, but can't get anything sensible,

and 6dn, where I have the 3 central letters, but again no sensible word that fits. Tips please

Dylan, 6d. is (5'2), a nautical term. Comes up in the singular in Chambers.
Still working on the others myself.

18 - definition is last two words
2 - definition last two words and extra letter is at start of word for blame

This is obviously as tough as I feared. Inquisitor may be even tougher! Feeling pretty humbled at the moment.

A nearly full grid, but stymied by 35a (and the intersecting 29d). Also some of my extra letters must be wrong as I can’t make a lot of sense out of them. Time to do something else for a while and let the fog clear!
