A few years ago we were driving across Ireland with a friend and her teenage son, who was vegetarian and diabetic. Badly in need of food, we stopped at what would, I presume, be called a "roadhouse". He asked if there was a vegetarian option. After a pause, the woman at the counter said
"Ah, weel, there's the beef curry"....

Jighag, thanks for the treat, a lovely little anecdote. I was delighted to hear that the market cafe and Cassie are still going strong. I admire the addition of new items to the menu, though I'd be reluctant to order that dish - it sounds awful!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. The special did not appeal to me either. Much safer with eggs on toast.

I loved the story. I can understand the confusion, Italian food items seem very similar to me too.

I see the local pie girl is still going strong on Countdown.

Enjoyed reading about your latest adventures at the market cafe!

The 2025 County T20 fixtures are out, I`ve just booked 2 nights at the Worcester Premier Inn for our game at New Rd on Sunday 1st June.
The booking is for a `room with a view` - hopefully not one of the car park!

Glad you are going to Worcester, and hope you get a good room. I'm sure you will have a great time in the Cardinal's Hat etc.

I am looking forward to the Championship fixtures, though I will go to a few T20 games at OT as my son likes them.

I've only seen one T20 game live - much preferring 4 day CC games and the 50 over comp.
This will only be my 2nd visit to Worcester - the Plough is my favourite pub but there are many good ones 🍺

I used to go in the Swan with 2 Nicks and the Shakespeare, where the umpires used to stay. Lots of cricket memorabilia. Had a long chat with David Constant and David Shepherd there many years ago. But it has probably changed now.

The landlady of the Cask Inn (Scarborough) introduced me to Jeff Evans one night - they used to be married, having met at the pavilion bar (North Marine Rd) when Jeff was umpiring there.
Will do my research on Worcester pubs before the trip!

Here's a clue from today's Guardian (Arachne, of all people!) that will irritate malone and grunger at least!

She merits being represented as a recluse (9)
