When I did Wordle this morning, it accepted VIZOR as a word, but it wasn't correct. Fortunately I had one go left to enter VISOR.

There is nothing wrong with a split infinitive. It was an obsession with 18th century grammarians only because it isn't possible to split an infinitive.........in Latin!

Wordle in 3 today, just saying.

I only posted the link as a bit of fun, but you're right about Latin and the split infinitives - if you haven't already, I thoroughly recommend reading Mother Tongue by Bill Bryson.

I was thrilled that Levi Roots got the 9- letter Jointress, a word I knew of course, but not with the meaning given.

Have you been to the market cafe recently? I am sure we would all welcome a report.

I know there are "cable jointers" so yes I suppose the female would be jointress, but they did not mention that - surprising for Susie Dent.

I might go to town tomorrow - not been to the cafe for weeks.

I had not been to the market café for a while, so I went today, hoping that Cassie would not mention beans, as she had got the better of me on that subject last time.

Unfortunately, the specials board was marked “Cannellini, beans and chips”. I could not resist pointing out the error.

“You surely can’t be serving cannellini beans AND baked beans with chips, or is it just cannellini beans and chips, in which case you have an unnecessary apostrophe” I told Cassie.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about” she replied, “cannellini is pasta stuffed with beef and vegetables”.

“No, that’s cannelloni, with one ‘i’. Cannellini has 2 ‘i’s” I advised her.

She called through to the kitchen, “Paul, you’re wrong again, you’ve got 2 ‘i’s.”

“I know I have 2 eyes, what’s wrong with that?” came the reply.

In our restaurant (canteen) at the TM Registry I waited years for this to appear on the menu, knowing it was inevitable:@

Vegetarian chilli con carne.

Sure enough, it turned up.
