Have it sorted except the intersection of the Power... and Settle... clues - both have been hinted at above but they seem to clash!

(And still trying to parse "Wonderful"!)

TJC, the answers to these clues share several common letters, and don't forget that some answers are jumbled.

The Wonderful... clue is arguably the hardest to parse in the entire crossword. A hint: "sent" can mean "transported" and so could be an anagram indicator...

Really enjoyed this. Utterly daunting to start with: blank grid, jumbled words, extra words in clues. I chipped away and it revealed itself slowly. Thanks Serpent

I gave up on this on Saturday afternoon, being depressed by the facts that loge had whipped through it in no time and that I was getting nowhere. However, the fact that I solved last week's bugger unaided persuaded me to return.

At post 30 pootle mentions the Mephisto construction. It has complete symmetry - is this relevant?

Hi kenhiggs - I have managed to insert all the bars so that I know where all the entries go. This is despite my being 6 words short of a full set of solutions nor having the foggiest as to which of them are to be entered jumbled. loge confirmed at post 3 that all the perimeter solutions are entered unjumbled so I've been able to enter them (except for the down clue in the SE corner which is one of my unsolveds). I've even had fun numbering the clues and lights while waiting for the PDM. I'm still waiting!

You shouldn’t be depressed Ken, sometimes a puzzle clicks and other times it doesn’t. I got lucky with this one, but was almost certainly the last on this forum to finish 4656 (the coding one).

The 'perimeter' is actually wider than that word might imply, such that it contains the 50% of answers that are not jumbled. Will37 - in the SE corner, a word meaning to present a (legal) case with one letter 'raised' so as to make a new word.

Many thanks for that, marbles. The word had occurred to me as a possibility for what I call "29 down" but I hadn't parsed it.

Now I'll take your hint and re-examine the meaning of "perimiter".

Well I've completed the grid and adjusted the bars so I do have 52 entries.

However I haven't the faintest idea about the theme, the 4 word wordplay etc etc.

I look forward to finding out what it was all about when the results are printed.
