I agree with loge about the title - especially as the unclued word in question is in first position. The aphorism originally referred to a mathematical problem involving an impossible construction.

Got it, I was overthinking as usual, and got sidetracked by the title.

I'm completely stuck on this one. I've solved over half the clues, but can't see how to place anything, given that each entry could be jumbled.

If you've got 1ac, try putting that where you'd reasonably expect it to and see what else might fit - worked for me.

A word of advice in case any of you are as stupid as me, and forgot how a barred grid worked despite solving one weekly. Looking at the construction of the Mephisto helped me greatly.
