I thought it was Dana and Ginger too at 26. Rather obscure, though there is a nudge from the extra word in 28 down!

Steady progress so far but a couple of parsings have me foxed.
23a: have the flower but can't make the 'filling' for it fit the clue.
40a: have a swimmer but again, parsing?

Granama1, in 23 the word for quickly is a Latin word which rhymes with a former president of Yugoslavia. You have to remove its last letter.

40 islander is a four-letter word meaning someone from an Italian Mediterranean island, plus a common word for "assist" with outer letters removed

Thanks Loge! Onward...have a full grid inc bottom line + 3 other examples etc. Now to make sense of the extracted letters.

I must be blind or stupid. I have located 3 of the highlighted areas - two near the top and one near the bottom. I guess the fourth is somewhere south of the middle, but any hints would be appreciated!

Lewap - have you completed the bottom row?

I have bottom row and three other rows. Without giving too much away, two of those rows are in the top half and one is in the bottom half....

Difficult to not give it away but you need four rows in total not five.

But it says 'after completing the bottom row, highlight four more examples, 52 cells.' That would mean there should be 5 examples total in the grid, including the bottom row...but only the new four should be highlighted...
