Or conceivably just as in “bearing”, nounal definition 5 in Chambers. Too many possibilities!

Yes, that too (it's a word for all seasons!).

Sometimes you can't see for looking - so obvious now we realise what's happening. Can work on the rest of this now - thanks everyone

I see everything except the what each clash cell must contain.

I could only find 8 missing words from the across clues, and I think the ninth must be from 27A, which I can't parse.

It looks like the extra word must be SET, and that all the clashes are filled with one of the letters from this word. But I still can't make sense of the instruction.

I think I am hampered by a complete lack of interest in this week's theme, one could even call it an active dislike of the game. I know that 21a and 41d are both thematic but can't for the life of me get either. Any sort of nudge for either would be appreciated.

21a: 'Moulding' is the definition. 'upset' is anagrind of 'may', and standard 3-letter word for gut.

41d: 'Pass for Indian' is the definition. Scottish sort of tribe, and usual 3-letter abbreviation for 'Henry'.

Not sure whether Rad (post 13) is still watching this thread, but I share his pain. Worse still, I was actually there!

I'm now in the same boat as demeter, I have eight of the extra words and can make the same educated guess for the ninth - but don't have a scooby as to what it means?
