I don't think the clues you're missing will help with W or (the shorter) M, dylan.
21 - 'moulding' is the def - anag C(od's) MAY + [I (='one') inside a 3 letter word for 'gut'].
47 def - the obvious one for 'clarets etc' - a generic name for 'Communist' + 'rogue'/cad (5 letters + take its first letter to the end).

...sorry, one of those will certainly help - but look again at the clue for 33a (you might have ended too soon).

If you're right about 21ac drxx and I'm sure you are, then the only problem is you end up with a non-word at 1dn, don't you?

Not after the instruction has been followed, theragman (I do have a word at 1d that's in Chambers, but not one I'd heard of before!).

I agree with you, drxx. There is one possible alternative word, which results from carrying out the instruction. I rather liked the final touch. A nice nod to a venerable old competition, which tied in nicely with the title

Thnaks , drxx, all done now. I had indeed finished 33ac too early, and getting 21ac completed it all. Not sure about the discussion about 1dn - seems fine to me, before and after the instruction.
