The problem I have had has been solved, I think! Sources online differ as to the significant number in this case. I checked the wrong one clearly, but it was the one that should have been right! Apologies. This final entry has been puzzling me for hours. How annoying and thanks drxx for the answer I didn't think needed to be checked..

Finally got the 9th clash sorted and it all seems to be nicely in place.....except that the perpetrator of the decisive event should really be on the other side!

All done but with one lingering query. When all instructions have been followed 1a seems a bit odd. It seems it must be 2 words but with what I have it doesn't appear to be a common expression. Have I erred somewhere?

Granama1, my 1 A (the final entry) is a totally normal, common word.

Hi Malone, I'd not checked my letters in 1a properly and had entered a singular word. Fixed now.

Hi drxx...that's exactly what I didn't do. A little more concentration on the clue did the trick.

... it's not a very appealing plural - I can see why you'd resist it!
