Jack, the definition is 'native bears' - and they're definitely not from Lesotho. There's a three letter acacia at the start and the usual 'are' plus an abbreviation for Lesotho's. (the 'are' is inside, eaten by, Lesotho's).

Thanks Malone, 18ac my last one also and struggling to find bears in the Lesotho desert. One too many clashes, but thanks to Crates@34 for putting that right. I had a less plausible landowner starting with another bit of Kent. That gave me 2 clashes in 31ac and only the 2nd letter in 31dn. Now for the tricky bit.

I’m struggling with NE corner. Any hints for for 9d and 10d would be greatly appreciated.

Numbskull, for 10, the 'school' refers to the three-letter word relating to dolphins or whales (or dolphins and whales), often used in crosswords. This is followed by 'a', in clue+ 'bit of light'. The definition is 'footy', not referring to the game, but to the part of the body.

A manager, someone who's managing, not necessarily a boss, might cope, might 4,2.
