Can someone please explain 37across?I know the misprint is D, but I haven't a clue where it goes, I think the last letter of the answer is the wrong one, but I cannot fathom why the answer is what it is!

Gitto,

It's a hidden reversal. Yes, the misprint is D (penultimate letter of clue).

saoralba,

The answer to 1D both flies and crawls, so the definition is fair.

wintonian,

No, there's some other determinant of the letter replacements.

I think I've made the checked replacements and identified the six unchecked ones (though I'm not 100% sure) I am now stuck - is something meant to appear in the grid if the replacements are made correctly?

Hints on 43, 38 and 26 would be appreciated as my few functioning brain cells are going through an energy crisis.

Notrab, my answers to all three are educated guesses so I could be wrong. I think the wordplay for 43 is something to do with giants (?) and the answer is to do with music. The misprint for 26 is in bony, I think.

Demeter,

I've got it now! A straightforward (with the benefit of hindsight!) allocation of the "wrong" and "right" pairs to the affected clues. As two of the six clues with unchecked "wrong" letters lead to real words, the "usually" phrase in the preamble is appropriate.

Notrab - planks is right about 26 (where there's the first three letters there could well be bras!) and 43. The clue to 38 is one with no misprint: definition is 'Lime', and a look at Bradford should reveal something that can be 'served up'.

I think you mean "brass" rather than "bras"! Any further hints about 43ac?

Barretter, the misprint is in core.

I'm still totally perplexed by how to replace the unchecked wrong letters, would anyone be able to give me an oblique hint?

Thanks for that, I have it now. Don't understand the hint about 38dn. The only word I can find in Bradford is "trap"/"part",in which case you'd have to change 2 letters.
