Good morning, Rusty!
We have a beautiful day here!
It is already about 20C even so early in the morning!
According to the BBC, it will peak at 29C by midday.
We are going out to visit friends for the day.
I think we shall drive over there, although we could go on the tram.
We are all going out for lunch to the restaurant with the walled garden ( a favourite of mine)
The tables have sunshades so it should be quite pleasant eating out.
I am looking forward to it.
Re "Centennial"......I got very involved in the story of Rufous and the little black bull!
And the part about the beavers......
This book is definitely growing on me!
Must away to get organised ....we need to leave in an hour........
Have a good day!
Catch up with you later.

Hello, Ros!
Yes, I got your clue!
It was the mis-spelling "nicker" that "firstly" alerted me!
Very good!

Iam pleased to have defeated you for even a minute, malone!
We must try with some other names.
I felt I could have done better had I thought longer, but it's not Peer review, is it?
This is not a million miles away from possibility. I once did some reaearch on a blood sucking bug and, when not feeding/working with them, kept them in a drawer (in a tightly corked tube with breathing holes)

Good morning, Elle!
Not so warm here.
Hope you enjoy your day away.
I liked Rufus!
There will be a lot more about the beavers when Pasquinel and McKeag enter the story.
I am glad you appear to like the tale.
I wonder what you think of the way Michener has written it, with his report to the "US editors" at the end of each chapter?
I thought it unusual, if not unique.
I have no plans for today so going to take it easy!

Good afternoon, Rusty!
We have had a lovely day with our friends!
And a most enjoyable lunch out!
It is incredibly hot here!!
I wouldn't be surprised if the temperature were over 30C.
Now that we are home, I have the fans going full blast!
Re "Centennial"..........
I approve the way Michener "reports in" to the US editors at the end of each chapter!
It reminds the reader that this is indeed a factual report.......and it shows that the author (of said report) has got his finger firmly on the pulse of what is going on - and of what he is investigating.
A good idea, don't you think? A sensitive touch?
What sort of a day have you had?
Did your weather improve any?
It seems unfair that the South East is getting most of the good weather!

Hello, Elle,
I have read about your temperatures in the South.
NOT like that up here.
Been dull all day, and there is a storm warning for the Borders.
You seem to have had a fine day out!
Glad you and Michener see eye to eye!
I like his books a lot, and Centennial would be one of my favourites.
I have not done much today.

Hi, Rusty!
I honestly don't think you would have liked the temperature we have had today........it was as well we were reasonably inactive!
I would have hated to have had to walk very far in this heat!
The sunshine and blue skies are psychologically good to see, but these high temperatures are very enervating.
I long for it to be cool enough to take a really long brisk walk!
I am "lounging" this evening!!
Reading!
Although later I shall watch some of the Paralympics.
Have you had chance to watch much of the Games?

Hello, Elle!
No, far too hot for me!
Just heard the football in Manchester has been postponed because of heavy rain, thunder and lightning, and the trams can't run!
I have only saw Dame Sarah at the games.
I am just listening to my wireless now, and I think it is quite chilly!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, the storm in Manchester sounds to be very bad!
Two substations were hit which is why the trams aren't running!
The tram link in Manchester runs right through the city centre, cutting across main roads etc - it must be causing absolute chaos.
And there are floods up Market Street.
It's a while since I was up there - about three years ago when I went for a friend's funeral.
Still very hot here...I think we are in for a very muggy night.
Seemingly, this has been the warmest day in September for 105 years!
34C in Gravesend!
I wish we could "swap" you for a bit of cold air!!
Dame Sarah has 12 Olympic gold medals now, doesn't she?

What a refreshing change to see someone using "enervating" correctly!

You probably need a refreshing change, though - we've just had a thunderstorm lasting a couple of hours, although the rain was only torrential for part of that.

Could certainly do with a storm here but the sky is clear and the moon very bright so I think not.

Comes to something when the 2 presenters specialising in saying "Bake" in the most annoying way possible make the 10 o@clock news because they decide to leave "Bake Off". Channel 4 outbid the BBC by £10 million- is that really right? Paul and Mary will be able to name their price. Pity. I should think it will lose its appeal.
