Good evening, Rusty!
How has your day been?
I hope you and your grandson enjoyed your outing?
Where did you go?
What a busy day I have had!
(And that on top of staying up late last night to watch Jonnie Peacock retain his 100 m Olympic title! He did well!)
We have been out for two walks - one in the rain! - and in between have been watching the Athletics!
What a shame though for Eilidh Doyle!
She was leading in the Diamond League stakes until the Brussels event, when she lost the deciding race - and therefore the overall Diamond League win - to Tate, who won by ten points.
Eilidh has done so well all the season - I am sorry that she lost out at the eleventh hour!
Did you watch the Great North City Games in Gateshead?
Laura Muir won again!

Are you taking bets yet on who will be post 10 000? I promise that I won't try to pre-empt!

Hi, Chris!
Maybe we should invite Norah to put in a "guest appearance"?

Good evening, Elle!
I did not see Laura!
That is annoying!
My (only) grandson and me had a fine time.
We went to a cafe, a truckers' cafe, and it was good.
And a good bit cheaper than the usual ones i attend, and nice friendly girls serving.
Grandson said the cafe was like something out of the 70's!
Just lacked the Fonz!
Eilidh did very well all season.
Pity she did not get the Diamond League.
Jamie Murray and partner have won the US Open today.
And it is Arnie's 87th birthday.
Plenty to celebrate!

Hi, Rusty!
Try this link to watch Laura's one mile race at Gateshead.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Mn9Quj3lSQ
I hope it works!
Laura Weightman, Stephanie Twell and Liz McColgan were also racing.
I am glad that you and your (only!) grandson enjoyed your time out together!
How old is he?
It is good that you have found yet another place for your outings...it sounds interesting if it reminds you of the Fonz!
We went to see a musical "Happy Days", a couple of years back - based on the original Henry Winkler series - at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley.
It was surprisingly very good!
I had wondered about its perhaps being a pale imitation of the original but it was excellently done.
It got very good reviews!

Hello, Elle!
Thank you kindly for the clip of the race.
My grandson is 20.
We had a great time.
The cafe had hundreds of photos of lorries on the wall.
Very popular with the truckers, which is a good sign.
Right, back to my book.
The War Diaries of Sister Edith Appleton.
There is a website dedicated to her as well.
And it is full of fascinating stuff, and folk contributing to it, as well.

Hi, Rusty!
I haven't heard of Edith Appleton......but I am supposing , as she is referred to as "Sister", that she is a wartime nurse?
Is the book written along similar lines to Lyn MacD's "The Roses of No Man's Land"?
That too is in diary form.
I think that is my preferred book out of all the ones that I have read by Lyn MacD!
I have only a hundred pages remaining in "Human Traces" - by Sebastian Faulks
His characters outline many theologies and principles about various mental diseases..........
I was interested to read in the "Notes and Acknowledgements" that although the characters about whom he writes are all fictitious, the import of what is said about medical conditions is by "real" doctors whose genuine names are given, and whose views either quoted or referred to are actually fact.
This makes the book (plot) all the more enthralling.
P.S. Forgot to tell you.......my book - "Centennial" - has arrived from the U.S!
Very good condition - and hasn't it arrived soon?

Good day, Elle!
Yes, Sister Edith served throughout the War, in several different locations in France and Belgium.
Unfortunately, they cannot find some diaries, so there will be huge gaps in the narrative, I think.
She came from Deal, in Kent. Near you?
I do not think it will be anything like as good as "Roses", but hope it is interesting.
"Roses" is a classic, I think.
Be well worth a penny, anyway!
Glad "Centennial" has arrived.
Was quick, yes.
There is a well known book seller in Durham who takes about two weeks from order to delivery.
Not good at all!

Good morning, Rusty!
It is a beautiful morning!
Blue sky, sunshine - and chilly!
I think it supposed to be 12C at present , but rising to 19C by midday.
I need hardly say that I am delighted! Much pleasanter and fresher than of late!
Deal is on the coast near to Dover, so probably about 75 miles from me?
I have never been to Deal, although obviously I have been to Dover as it is a ferry port.
We are going out for the day, meeting up with younger daughter and family.
Baby is now on the move! I wouldn't call it a conventional crawl, but he is progressing (slightly) along the floor!
What do you have planned?
Don't forget the Great North Run - BBC showing coverage at 9.30am!
I might get to see a bit of it before we go!
