Hello Doglet,

There are certainly nice white wines in Alsace - Personally I prefer a Pouilly Fume or a Meursault; I,m afraid my tastes are expensive when it comes to wine! But I only drink wine with food, and when friends are with me - otherwise it's mainly water.

I don't mind a beer in the afternoon if a friend pops in, and some evenings I pour myself a sweet Martini which does me both for aperitif as well as after dinner drink,

Morning!
A very (unexpectedly ) wet day here! Got caught out half way round our walk!
I've finished reading "Northanger Abbey" - I'd forgotten how inconsequential Jane Austen could be sometimes! I'm now started on "Mansfield Park" which is proving better!
I wish I had the Forsyte Saga here...I'm very envious, Doglet, of your gift...I shall check the prices out on Amazon.

Hi there !

I have just received the 2 DVDs - 'A Horseman Riding By' and 'To Serve Them All My Days' - a very quick delivery indeed. Both in English version of course.

I have also ordered the DVD of TV series of the Forsyte Saga. There are only series 1 and 2 available at present, but rest might come in future. I think I have read some of it in the (very) distant past !

I love Mansfield Park Elle; I must admit Northanger Abbey made no impression on me - can't even remember anything about it.

I was just starting to watch Becoming Jane last night when a lengthy telephone call interrupted everything, so will have another go tonight.

Weather here (sorry) is sunny, blue sky and sunshine - just a slight North-Easterly breeze to maintain temps no higher than 25C. Due to be this way for two or three days- I thought you were in for some sunny and dry weather too ?

I hope you will enjoy both series, Pigale! I've read and watched both books and films and enjoyed them.
Usually I get upset if I find too many discrepancies between the written word and the subsequent film!
The sun is just creeping out now.....a very pale and watery version! I hope it remains fine when we go out shortly.
Our local weather forecast isn't looking too good - temperatures are not expected to rise above 18/19C and that only for a minimal part of the day - early mornings are only about 10/11 C and feeling decidedly chilly!
I shall think of you with envy!

hi elle
i liked the bbc version of the Forsyte saga with Nyree Dawn Porter,I did look at the latest one but it had Damien Lewis who I dont like and he certainly was not my idea of Soames, but at least Mr Murray bit the dust ,rusty wouldnt be very pleased as lindsay Sharp got a record, there are athletics on bbc 1 on Saturday from 13.00 until 16.00 so we still have a fix.Tomorrow it is supposed to be 21 I hope not as I am going to the zoo again with a friend and 1 year old grandson!!!

Hi, Doglet!
We've just come back from a most enjoyable walk in late afternoon sunshine!
Yes, I too like the "old" BBC version of the Forsyte Saga - I might consider asking for it as a Christmas present from one of the girls - the other daughter can buy me the books! It's years since I saw/ read the Forsyte Saga.
You're right - Rusty will not be pleased at Lynsey Sharp's breaking the record....and beating World Champion Arzamsova. He really dislikes her!
Don't forget we don't only have the Athletics on Saturday, there are also the Road Races on Sunday.
Enjoy the zoo- which one? - tomorrow with your friend and the little one.

Elle and Doglet,

You may not like Rugby but in 10 days time, you will have no choice but hear about it since the World Cup is being hosted by England !

Hi again,

Have just watched Becoming Jane and enjoyed it. I had not realized that Jane Austen had known fame with Pride and Prejudice at such a young age - nor that she never married (although I seem to remember her being referred to as Miss Austen).

Only slight problem : the sound on the DVD was quite poor, hence I missed some of the dialogue, in particular when they just whisper; have you encountered the same problem or did you watch it on TV?

Anyway, it was not bad enough to spoil things, so thank you for the recommendation Elle !
