You're right, elle.
Books that I have hated having read in the last few years include "A god in ruins" and "The buried giant". You spend all that time reading them, and then you discover that "it all didn't happen".

Hello, Elle!
There are still more logs to chop!
But not for a few days, maybe next week.
I persevered with my clue and finally saw it!
It is 26a.
I saw the answer instantly, but the parse took ages!
I am fairly sure a similar clue came up recently, giving the same "Miss".
I had a noise occasionally under my car.
It was some kind of link, apparently.
It has been fixed and road-tested and I'll collect it in the morning.
It's amazing what cars can do nowadays.
I was in one today and it alerts the driver if the tyres are not inflated to the correct pressure.
New to me!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, go easy on the log-chopping!
Spread it out over the week.
I have my crossword printout before me...and have looked at 26a.
"Love missing husband, not that she regrets" (4)
It is funny how people differ in what clues they find simple.....
It is Miss Otis who regrets....so
Otis = she regrets (def)
O - love
this - not that ; minus "h" for "husband" gives "tis"
I like it!
Our car alerts the driver if the tyres are not inflated to the right pressure!
It is a very chatty car.......it tells us all sorts of things!
We cannot fathom out the inbuilt Sat Nav though...it is so complicated and seems obsessed with sending us to Finland...?
I usually plug in our old TomTom!

Hello, Elle!
I just could not see the link to "not that"/"this", when looking for the husband!
I shall blame my stinging palms spoiling my concentration!
"Otis" was an answer recently, too.
Your Volvo must be a posh car!
I don't have anything telling me stuff in my car.
I don't think I have anything like that, but I prefer peace and quiet.
I don't have SatNav but I don't think I need it.
I think all my young ones have SatNav on their 'phones.

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, our Volvo is quite a clever car!
It doesn't actually "talk" though, but emits variously toned noises, and writes messages!
If we are travelling somewhere in London , I rely on the old A to Z, if necessary!
But the TomTom has come in useful on journeys to remote distant areas that our maps do not cover.
It was especially useful in Norfolk, where nothing seemed to be shown on our map!
My husband, who is the car driver, does not like the Sat Nav though, and is inclined to argue with it!
This does not make for a peaceful journey......

Hello, Elle!
I do not think I would take to SatNav.
I like to concentrate on the road.
I won't have my car radio on as I find it distracting.
Years ago you would stop and ask a pedestrian where on earth you were if/when you got lost!
They were the good old days!

Here is a clip of Katie and Elinor in the last couple of laps in the Madison.
Chris Hoy keeping a watchful eye on them!

Hi, Rusty!
Thank you for the cycling clip!
Sat Nav isn't really intrusive....and you can usually "choose" a voice to direct you, so it isn't irritating to have a tone that you dislike.
And you are only given instructions when there is a change of route.....
Also, should you elect to disregard the current instruction and go your own way, the Sat Nav picks up on this, and can carry on directing you from where you then are.
It is certainly a useful device if you do not know where you are going, and do not have sufficient map coverage.
But I have been known to wind down my window, and still ask for directions, even in this day and age!
It is time for the dog to go out into the garden one last time ...and then I am away to my bed!

A Very Good morning to you, Rusty!
A sunny, but very cold, morning here!
I think the chill is beneficial when out walking early...one walks all the faster, in order to keep warm!
I am just grabbing a coffee, and a quick look online at the News...
And then I am off out to have my hair cut.......

Good morning, Elle!
Great day here!
I can not walk any faster.
My normal pace is "lickety split" mode!
I have collected my motor and visited a couple of shops and made a dental appointment and have chucked stuff into my slow cooker for a casserole for my tea.
So, a good morning's work.
Miss La Bamba's best pal arranged my appointment.
She is a dental nurse at the practice I go to.
A very nice young lady, indeed.

Hi, Rusty!
I am finally home again.....
And we now have heavy rain!
What is it about my having my unruly locks straightened, that brings on the damp weather?!
I hope your car is now okay?
Yes, you have indeed been having a busy morning.......still, you can sit back now, knowing, at least, that your tea is all prepared!
So when do you go to the dentist to get your crown fixed?
