Sorry, Cerasus!
Just noticed you are not a customer of Amazon or PayPal!
Anyways, do not click on link, and delete, would be my advice.

Hello Rusty
Amazon are aware and have asked anyone receiving phishing emails to report to them. I never click on links .
You are not lecturing at all - safety and awareness is paramount .

Hi, Rusty!
I think your son and daughter- in -law were very lucky in the timing of their visit to Venice.
They fortunately made it home again before the flooding there really took a hold.
I don't know the story behind the CD you mention?
Could that be a parallel to the situation in Venice?
Yes, I am pleased about my prospective book....£5-09 , brand new, and free postage.
Not a bad deal?
I have done all bar two clues of today's puzzle...I found it easier than yesterday?
What did you think?

Hello, Elle!
Yes, my son says he doubts if they would return to Venice.
They liked it, but it is not Florida!
Now, "Venice in Peril"!
It was the name of Rondo Veneziano's CD, which I have here and it is really good.
But, there is a British charity called "Venice in Peril", too.
It raises funds to help restore Venetian monuments, buildings, and works of art, damaged by the waters and pollution etc.
I suspect there may be a link, but have not delved into it, yet.
Yes, your book is the updated version and it should cover everything you are curious about.
I have finished the puzzle.
The German river is new to me.
And much scratching of my head in trying to parse 17a!
Got it, though!

Hi, Rusty!
I have looked "Venice in Peril" up in Wikipedia, and it says there that the album "was released as part of an international campaign to save Venice from sinking into the lagoon".
Does that sufficiently answer your question? It is rather sparse information, but it was all I could find out.
Now the puzzle...
17a, the one that you initially had trouble in parsing, is one of the two clues that I am unable to solve!
"Amphibious troops choose to cut men in charge, producing power" (14)
?H?R?O?L?C?R?C
I am completely stuck here?
Also 22d: Take off always including elevated material (5)
A?E?Y
I wondered about "ape" for "take off" ?
But that doesn't seem to fit with anything else...nor offer a definition?
What am I not seeing here, please?
I am just popping out with the dog!
Back soon!

Hello, Elle!
Yes, perfect, I did not see the bit about the CD being released for that reason.
Go to the top of the class!
17, is "thermoelectric".
I shall resist parsing it, as that would be good practice for you, as it is a bit convoluted!
22, Always is "ay", the elevated material is a corded cloth called "rep".
Reverse "rep" inside "ay" for "apery" meaning a "take off".
The frost has lifted here but it is still cold!

Hello, Pigale!
Very sad news coming from France.
Raymond "Pou Pou" Poulidor died earlier today.
Probably the most popular French rider ever.

Hi, Rusty!
The dog and I are back from our walk.....
It is a bit greyish out now...... and, in addition, it will soon be dark!
Thank you for your help with my two remaining unsolved clues.
Right.......
17a: thermoelectric = producing power(def)
elect - choose
ic - in charge
But I do not see the correlation between "therm" and "amphibious troops"?
22d: Ah, I was thrown off track here by thinking of "ape" for "take off"!
Yes, I can see the reasoning, now that you have kindly explained it to me.
Again, thank you!
I saw your post about "Pou Pou".....
How very sad.....83 is but still young these days!
About what time will your grandson get to you?
You will be looking forward to seeing him.

Hello, Elle!
We have an icy roads warning for tonight!
I think Winter is here!
17, The parse is "the RM" (Royal Marines) for the amphibious troops.
Choose is "elect" surrounded by men "OR", in charge is "ic".
OK?
Yes, very sad about Pou Pou.
I did not know he had been poorly.
Everyone loved Pou Pou.
My grandson should be here after five.
I have texted to him to warn him about the icy roads!
