In tribute, I'm listening to the Getz/Gilberto album. I've also Googled the story of The girl from Ipanema track on the album. Apparently it was a late decision to include the verses in English, and the only Brazilian who spoke English was Joao's wife, Astrud, who had never recorded before - she was perfect! (although the story that she was only in the studio as she was bringing her husband a packed lunch isn't true!)

Wiki says that it's the second most recorded song, after Yesterday.

jazzgirl would be interested - has anyone heard from her recently?

Hi, Rusty!
I have been talking to my cousin for the past hour.....and catching up with news of the North-western branch of the family.
All are well.
And surprisingly, whilst we have had rain for a large part of the day, up there, they had a scorchingly hot, beautiful day!
My cousin has been watching her grandson play cricket!
Thank you for the update on the tennis schedule....
It sounds like a good day's viewing!
Rafa, Jo and Roger!
And all following each other.....what more could I ask!
I think Cori "Coco" Gauff is to play Simona Halep?
I must find out about that too.

Thank you, Chris, for the musical contribution!

Hello, Elle!
We up here had a fine day, mostly, too.
Good the Northern folk are grand.
On No1 Court from 13.00 are, in order of play, Serena, Coco, and Djokovic.
So, that may cause you a bit of channel hopping!
I'll choose Jo to watch, cycling permitted, and when it ends I should get to see another match, I think, but le Tour and Jo are priority!

Chris, puzzlement over!
I wondered about your musical post, but have just came across Joao Gilberto's obituary.
I liked "The Girl"!

I think I remember Jazzgirl posting several weeks ago.
I understood her to say she is busy doing other things.
Several other former regulars no longer post.
Les40, Pastille, Trevor, spring to mind.
I'm sure there's more.
They are all missed!

Good morning, Rusty!
It is another lovely day here, after yesterday's rain!
I think it is set to be a little cooler, which will be very nice.
Yes, a very good programme of tennis today.......having Coco and Novak also thrown into the mix makes it an extremely busy day for me!
As you say, I shall need to do some selective button pressing!
It will be interesting to see how Coco fares against Simona Halep?
Ash Barty is also playing....... at 11am.
What time does the cycling start?
Now you mentioned people who no longer contribute to the Forum.....
I may be mistaken, but I don't think either Chrisg or AB has been "seen" for a while?

Good morning, Elle!
Lovely morning here!
Eddy Merckx has just got today's stage under way.
The last three days have been a great tribute to Eddy.
His photo and posters are everywhere.
He's looking good, too!
I think this is "Magical Monday" at Wimbledon!
Some great entertainment ahead!
Several more injured at Pamplona earlier today.
Think you are right about Chrisg and AB.
I think that's the nature of forums.
Folk are on it for a while then many of them drift away.
Bill.I.am used to post every day, was it the Daily Mail he did?
Not seen him in a long time.
AJT; John(from Arran); Julie, Aberdeen; not seen Beth for a while.
Quite a long list if we thought about it!

Hi, Rusty!
Well, a great shock at Wimbledon!
Ash Barty, the Women's World Number One is OUT!
I only caught the last set, as I had determined not to watch before the afternoon matches.
But Ash only won the first set......and the last two went to her opponent, Alison Riske, of whom I have never heard, but who played extremely well.
I hope this will be the last shock of the day!
I do not want to see Novak, Roger or Rafa following suit!
I am looking forward to the Coco v Simona Halep match......that might well be interesting.
I hope the cycling is progressing satisfactorily?
How is Pete Sagan doing?
I know he is one of your favourites.

Hello, Elle!
Yes, I see Barty has gone.
Cycling is going fine.
There is a breakaway gone up the road but it is a long way to the finish.
It is a 133 mile stage today.
There are a few hills towards the end which should suit Sagan and several more of the classics riders, so fingers crossed for him.
He has picked up points in one of the intermediate sprints and is virtual green jersey on the road.
He was wearing the green jersey, anyway, but only because Teunissen held yellow and green, and could not wear both.
