Hi, Rusty!
You speak of growing boys!
My eldest grandson, now aged 10, is half an inch taller than I am, and wearing a size 7 shoe to my size 3!
Yes, the Donegal airport is very impressive......and the surroundings look fantastic.
Have you travelled via that route?
I know you usually like to go by ferry.
You will be pleased that BGT is back so soon!
I guess they were waiting for "The Voice" to end,
The boys are bathed and ready for bed very shortly!
We adults cannot decide whether we need to eat ...or not.....
Maybe hot cross buns - toasted? - and coffee?

Hello, Elle!
The airport at Carrickfinn is less than a mile from my late auntie's house in Donegal.
I have several cousins living very close by.
A lovely part of the world!
I much prefer on the boat. More sociable.
Lots more folk to meet etc.
Yes, I think BGT is earlier this year.
These are recorded shows.
Won't be live until near the end.
It's the same judges this year, and Ant and Dec.
Size 3 is a wee foot?
I am size 11, though a half size smaller would be more ideal, but not many half sizes going about.
It is quite a bit colder this evening.
Hope there is no snow ahead!

Hello Elle and Rusty,

Good you and the family are having a great time.

Donegal Airport is lovely indeed -
The most impressing piece of landing I experienced was arriving
on Madeira Island - on one side the sea, on the other a mountain,
and the strip is not very wide!

Hello, Pigale!
That is a lovely setting, too!
Just looked in on Lassie.
She looks as if she will be staying on the nest overnight.
No sign of an egg yet, though!

Hi, Rusty!
I am having trouble staying awake - the young ones have exhausted me!
I'm loving it though!
I wonder how BGT will deal with Dec's "fall from grace"?
As the shows are already recorded, they will have no option but to show them as planned ...or else cancel their being on air.
The latter presumably not a viable option?
I do not know what we are doing tomorrow as yet.....we may go shopping for a birthday present for our daughter........
She hasn't decided, though, what she would like.......
I looked in on the ospreys earlier...only Lassie in residence.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that you don't get snow!
We reached 10C today!

Hello, Pigale!
I'm glad I shan't be in a plane landing on that narrow strip!
It's been mild here today...but we keep getting rain!
More forecast overnight, too.
Give me cold and dry any day!

Hello again!

Both Laddie and Lassie were in residence until it got dark, then
I suppose Laddie went to perch himself somewhere as when I looked
again, Lassie was alone (I am very logical really....!!!!)
It is very windy out there tonight!
Do you have wind too Rusty? I too hope you don't get snow!
If I could Elle, I would send you some French weather to come -
Yes, we do get showers every now and then, but today was quite
decent, and so will the rest of the week with temps between 16C and
18C.

Madeira's airport is considered the most dangerous in Europe,
and there has been several hic ups mostly caused by strong cross
winds when pilots have trouble to face the runway head on - it
usually take them several attempts.
There was also one very bad crash (1977) when 131 people died when the plane slipped off the runway - They then carried out
necessary works to extend that runway, but it still is not very long!

But for all that, the feeling of landing in a medium size plane on such a narrow strip, facing the mountain until a last minute turn is rather
fantastic! I love flying!

Hello, Elle!
Dec is grand!
It is Ant that slipped up!
The shows are recorded, but I think when they go live, Dec will do them alone.
If need be on the recorded shows, they could edit Ant and Dec out, but they may leave them open to law suits etc?
It is a cold wind here!

Hello, Pigale!
Yes, quite a cold wind blowing here, Pigale.
I do not think there is snow forecast, but it's cold enough for it.
Lassie still alone!
No sign of the intruding bird today.
It does look a very short runway to me.

Hello Pigale
I like flying too, especially in helicopters..
The last time I visited Madeira was 1984 and the charter plane stopped en route at the Azores before continuing to Funchal. I cannot remember the reason, (and I can't find anything in google) but maybe to shed some fuel, to lighten the aircraft ? You may know. I do remember the pilot received a round of applause when we landed.
The ride that was more scary was in a coach from S. Vicente to Porto do Moniz. That was a white-knuckle experience for me.

PS maybe the plane needed to refuel rather than shed fuel !
