Hello, Jazzgirl,
You and me both, have lost the plot!
The rangers said there may be an egg by the weekend just past.
But with all the further shenanigans, I am a bit lost!

Hello rusty
An egg should have been laid by now, had Laddie's mating been successful.

Hello, Jazzgirl
Yes, that's what the rangers said last week.
But we don't how if mating was successful, though.
We shall just have to be patient, I think.

Hi, Rusty!
I am still puzzled, Rusty, by 23a: alameda
My clue says
Walk down alley, to begin with, after a game (7)
I see d(own) and a(alley) and "a" ...
but "lame" ?
You said "lame" for "halt"...... but where does "halt" come from?
Very muddling for my poor brain!
Oops! The wanderers are back!
I had to stop in the middle of typing this, as younger daughter phoned on her way home from work.......
And in the meantime, the shopping expedition has returned!
I'd better go!

Hello, Jazzgirl!
Yes, it will!
Think the rangers go on 24 hour watch then.

Hello again,

Back from shopping!

Now, they are somewhat ambiguous in their answer, because if
you look closely at their reply, you will see that they say in paragraph 2:

'We know from LF15's behaviour ......................several times a day"

but then further down, second sentence of paragraph 3:

"In regards to there potentially 2 fathers to the chicks, this is not
unheard of........... etc"

Well, to me, it is a round about way of admitting that there was
someone else mating with Lassie, but without saying so outright!
I hate ambiguity.

Just reading an article on Google, it seems that if given a DNA, it will often show that chicks may have three or four fathers!
Also that it might ensure a renewal of genes....? But then, who is
to say a mother is not mating with one of her offspring?
(With the ospreys, we would know as they have been tagged)

I wonder if Laddie also goes off to find himself a 'mistress' on his
outings?

Pigale, you are ruining all my romantic images of osprey domesticity!
I hadn't thought of Laddie also "straying"!
