Hello, Elle!
And why would I be having you on?
Of course there is a "liger".
I do happen to know one or two things, you know!
When you are throwing it in to the conversation you can mention that ligers are the biggest cats.
Are you throwing "in my puff" in as well?
I am struggling with the coverage of the games.
I do not know when or what is showing, though I had a bit of a clue this morning when I saw Jo Rowsell and Sir Chris Hoy in the studio.
I was surprised at the Brownlees performance.
I would have expected a medal there.

Hi, Rusty!
My TV guide does give an indication of what is happening when, with the Games....
No specific times are given, but it states what will take place within that coverage period.
I have marked off when an athletics event is taking place.
I am trying to watch the Highlights.....
The Brownlees came unstuck with their running.......
Up until then, both Alistair and Jonny were in contention for a medal......but I think past injury proved too much for them, in the running section of the Triathlon.
It is a shame that neither made it to the podium.
I cannot believe we have nearly got to the end of the week!
As my grandson says, only three sleeps till Sunday!
How is Miss ATW faring in Adelaide?

Hello, Elle!
I do not have a TV guide.
That is part of Times 2 which I give to my next door neighbour each day as she likes the puzzle pages.
She is a nurse and takes the puzzles to work for everyone to have a go at.
Miss ATW is flying to Perth from Adelaide right this minute.
Then at weekend, it is Perth to Dubai, then Dubai to Glasgow and home.
I have not heard from her since she landed at Australia.
All going well though, I hear.

Hi, Rusty!
Well, if it is of any help, my TV guide for tomorrow shows gymnastics from 6am till 9am on BBC2,
With swimming, then track cycling following at the Anna Myers Velodrome from 9.15am on BBC1
Plus netball and hockey.
More swimming later at 1 pm on BBC2.
I am calm and collected now....... the gardening and the crosswords and reading my Ian Rankin book have done their job!
Who was it said "What can't be cured must be endured"?.

Hello, Elle!
I did not know Anna "Meares", it is, had a velodrome named for her?
I saw her in the crowd today, she is looking great!
I'll have a look at the Cycling Weekly site to see if they have the exact times of the cycling.
I really like Clare Balding, but I'd rather not spend the morning listening to her.
Her enthusiasm would wear me out!
Clare's Dad trained the great Mill Reef, you know.
I think it was the pieman that Simon met on the way to the fair who said that.

Hi, Rusty!
Oops, sorry , "Meares" it is!
I think the Velodrome was opened at the end of 2016.
Mill Reef , I know , is a horse....but I'm floundering on the reference to the "pieman" whom Simple Simon met?

Hello, Elle!
Last time I saw Anna was at the London Olympics.
Peace had just broken out between her and Victoria Pendleton.
Two great sprinters and intense rivals!
The "pieman" was an inspired guess on my part, but I was convinced you would know it anyway as you know quite a bit about poetry.
Was I correct?

Hi, Rusty!
Ah, that "Anna" !
Yes, I remember now the long -term rivalry between Victoria and Anna - and the "burying of the hatchet" (fortunately not in each other! ) more recently, once Victoria had given up cycling......
But I still am not following your reference to Simon and the pieman?
The nursery rhyme goes
"Simple Simon met a pieman,
Going to the fair;
Says Simple Simon to the pieman,
Let me taste your ware.
Says the pieman to Simple Simon,
Show me first your penny;
Says Simple Simon to the pieman,
Indeed I have not any."
There's more.......but I cannot remember it!
Am I being obtuse here?

Hello, Elle!
They buried the hatchet and had a long chat about their wedding dresses!
The war was over!
Anna looked a bit slimmer I thought, today.
I remember Victoria saying she had lost half a stone of muscle once she retired.
No, you are certainly not being obtuse.
You riddled me, and I responded with an answer.
Now, you have mentioned "pieman", I think I may visit Greggs tomorrow.
Not been in this week.

Good morning, Elle!
A bit of a damp morning here.
I am heading out in a minute.
I have completed the puzzle online.
Quite a bit of head scratching today!
I did not know 5a was in London, though I recognised the name.
Think it may get a mention in the Boat Race commentary?
I have answer for 18a, but struggling to parse it?
I doubt very much there is an error in the clue, but I am a tad baffled!
15a, I have an answer but no idea what clue means.
22a and 26d are new words to me, and I have no idea what Debussy composed!
Other than that it was a good puzzle!
So, off out now!
