Good morning, Elle!
A wet morning here, too!
Hope you get on fine at the dentist!
I am going to see nurse this morning.
Yes, the Games start today.
Eilidh Doyle is our flag carrier.
She is delighted!
No Laura Muir though, studies come first!

Hi, Rusty!
The dog is a tad confused.......
She is accustomed to going out early!
We shall have to take her for a walk after my return from the dentist.
I hope your blood tests results will all be okay.
What time do you have to see the practice nurse?
I am pleased that Eilidh will be carrying our flag.
She well deserves the honour.
I had wondered whether she might be Team GB Captain....but she has already done this, hasn't she?
I think this time Tom Bosworth and Anyika Onuora are Co-Captains.
Ah, we have some (watery) sun......

Good afternoon, Rusty!
I am home again now.......and here to stay for the rest of the day.
The dentist visit was fine.
Yes, I had broken a tooth, but she fixed it there and then, and gave me a clean bill of health on all my other teeth.
So mission successfully accomplished.
The dog was very pleased to go out on our return.
We even had sunshine for a time .......although it is raining again now.
How did you fare seeing the practice nurse?
Is all well with your blood test results?
I am belatedly half way through the crossword.......... it is quite a nice puzzle.
Have you done yours?

Good afternoon, Elle!
A good result at your dentist. Well done!
My MOT was successful. Everything within limits.
Nurse was pleased, and me, too.
I have had sleet on and off all day.
Yes, I finished my puzzle.
Thought it was on the easy side, except for 12a, which I had not came across before.
I thought 1a, was two words!
And I can not quite parse 13d, almost, but not quite.
So, I have put the puzzle away and turned my attention to making soup!

Oooops!
I meant 12 down was a new word to me.
Some old Greek judge apparently.

Rusty, 13 D involves a Shakespeare character - unknown to me!

Hi, Rusty!
That is good that all went well with your MOT!
(You must have been doing some of the things, then, that the nurse had told you to do!)
Did you get chance to watch any of the Opening Ceremony of the Games?
I missed all of it, but hope to catch the highlights later.
I should like to see Eilidh carrying the flag.
You mentioned 12d...I couldn't do that one?
I have A?E?P?G?T?S
but no ideas.......?
I liked 1a: bumblebee; 6d: agitato and 17d: Riviera
New words for me were "marquessate" and "anchoret"
Seemingly "anchoret" is another version of "anchorite" though...and I have heard of that.
I cannot parse 21a...."one over the eight"?
So what sort of soup are you making?

Hello, Malone!
I know very little about Shakespeare or his plays, I confess.
But....after you kindly posted, I took myself off to see if Anne Bradford could shed any light on my ignorance!
And lo and behold, under "tinker" (which was the bit I could not parse) I found "sly".
So I presume old Shakespeare may have had a role in a play called "sly"?
Anyway, I'll look forward to tomorrow's puzzle!

Glad you found your tinker, Rusty. Sly has a huge role (!) to play in The Taming Of The Shrew. This was news to me!

Hello, Elle,
I watched quite a bit of the opening ceremony, though I could do without the singing!
Eilidh was dressed in a kilt and did very well.
I believe she was a very popular choice to carry the flag.
Yes, "anchoret" is a spelling I did not know.
Surely it is "bumble bee"?
12, is "Areopagites", the parse is easy enough, but it means a judge (in Greece).
I found it in Anne Bradford's book.
21. "one/over = won over" the "crew/eight"
Quite a good one, I thought.
Carrot and ginger soup!
