Good evening, Elle!
All I know is that the game has showed up in Paddy's betting.
Eurosport are not covering Wimbledon.
They have Le Tour to cover.
They show the French Open from Roland Garros, though. I know how Maria got on but I won't let on in case you wish to catch up.
Yes, me and Miss L Plate had a great time. Much jollity!
Yes, we got the last one at TESCO!
Not tried it yet.
That is great you get on well with your granddaughter.
They ARE a bit special! I have heard of Croydon!
Getting good, eh!
Miss L Plate is now packing for T in the Park.
Starts tomorrow. I am a wee bit busy too. Have a few friends arriving from Belfast tomorrow.
They are staying nearby. They are over to escape the 12th...so they are.
Golf was fine!
Bit of a hoo-ha at the womens golf in Pennsylvania a few moments ago.
One player hit her ball to the edge of a bunker and there were burrowing wasps there!
She wanted a free drop because she was allergic to wasps....she said!
No free drop, get on with it, she was told!

Pigale. I have just discovered the tea towel on Amazon UK and have ordered one. It is called a Cricket Linin Tea Towel on their website.

Did there used to be a commercial airport at Croydon during the 50's-60's?

Thanks Kenyatta, I found it and ordered one too. I also got a cheap second hand copy of 'And God created Cricket' , a book by Simon Hughes. Could be interesting.

From what I read on the trailer, it all started very much earlier than I thought, I had not realized that the game was as ancient as that, and apparently an adaption of another old game - the name of which I have already forgotten of course!

I'll let you know how I get on once I've received it.

Pigale, Tony Martin is flying to Hamburg for surgery on his collar bone. Team doctor said it is broken into several pieces with one piece protruding through the skin. He said he would not have permitted Tony to start tomorrow, even if he wanted to try.
No one gives up the yellow jersey easily.
Now, I think Sky and Froome have a big decision to make. Will Froome wear the jersey tomorrow?
I hope not.
Tour tradition says he should not.
Eddy Merckx would not take the jersey when Luis Ocana crashed.
Greg LeMond refused the jersey when Sorensen crashed out.
"The jersey has to be earned"

Hey, Rusty!
So Maria lost......oh well, no surprises there, I suppose!
I was hoping for a very different result, though!
Did you watch the match?
I didn't realise that "T in the Park" was a 'residential' (!) affair - a bit like Glastonbury?
How long does it last? so how many nights camping out?
(Poor ospreys!)
It is nice that your friends are coming to stay - nearby if not actually with you. By the 12th, you'll be meaning the Orangemen parade? so you will?
Have you any plans for whilst they are here? ( It's to be hoped that they like golf and cycle-racing, else you will miss out on your viewing!)
Have they been to Dundee before ?
Re the wasps....... I don't like wasps either ....ever since one of our hospital porters was on his honeymoon and his new wife was badly stung by wasps on the beach...sadly she was extremely allergic and it resulted in her being in a vegetative state. A very sad affair.
Unsurprisingly, I tend to give wasps a wide berth now.......
Yes, granddaughters are great! - she is , so far, our only one! as you know, we have three grandsons! the boys are wonderful, though!

Oh dear Rusty ! I did not think it would be such a bad inhjury ! The poor guy will be in agony tonight - unless is has already reached hospital in which case he would have been given strong stuff against pain.

I too hope no one will dare wear that yellow jersey - it should not even be considered! But there again, what happened with Cancellara when he fell?

Elle,
Poor Maria!
T in the Park lasts three days.
Starts tomorrow. There will be an exodus of young folk from the town!
Yes, the 12th is for Orangemen. For many people in Norn Iron it is still 1690.
Vast majority of normal folk bail out, over the Border or across here.
That is awful about the bride!
Grandyoungones are great, I agree!
Pigale, the cases of Cancellara and Tony Martin are different. Fabian crashed 55km from the finish and lost a lot of time, and had lost the jersey by the time he finished. Tony crashed within 4km of the finish and the rules say anyone who crashes within 4km must get the same time as the winner of his group. So, when the stage finished, Tony was still in yellow.
I would hate to see Froome wear the jersey tomorrow, but Le Tour organisation would obviously love a yellow jersey in the peloton. We shall see!

Pigale, there is no word from Team Sky whether Froome will start in yellow (as he is entitled to do) tomorrow.
I have not the slightest doubt that if Froome is given a choice, he will honour the tradition of the Tour and not wear it. But....the yellow jersey is the most coveted jersey in cycling, and very heavily sponsored.
Those sponsors want their jersey on show!
I think, if my old memory is correct, that Armstrong would not wear it after Zabriskie crashed, in 2005, and started in his team colours. But....after the neutralised zone he put it on. Almost certainly there was pressure brought to bear on him, to wear it. And I say that, while being no fan of Armstrong.

Rusty, I realise that any questions I put to you about the cycling will no doubt appear very naïve, as I know virtually nothing about the racing. I've never been interested in it as a sport, than sometimes for the countryside the Tour passes through.
But the yellow jersey? I'm assuming that the rider with the lowest aggregate time at the end of each stage gets to wear the jersey each day? and presumably starts off the race?
So if the current wearer of the jersey crashes out...?
I don't understand what you are saying about the relevance of the distance of the crash from the finish?
This may be perfectly obvious to you but I'm groping in darkness here.....
Should anyone else have the right to wear the yellow jersey in that person's place - or should it be withheld until someone's 'earned ' it the next day?
Please can you explain?
