Elle, in 14 D the 'each' comes from 'a pop' (50 pence a pop).

5 D. Just an anagram

5 A. A modern usage, definition is 'avoiding blame'

Hello, Elle!
5a, is Teaching English (as a) Foreign Language, is "TEFL".
No reversed is "on", giving "Teflon"
Which appears to be avoiding blame?
5d, is a good one.
Anagram of "girth to me" is "Tiger Moth".
A "woolly bear", I think, is a caterpillar of that species.
20, "reheels", woman brought up is "her/reh", the slippers are "eels".
14, took me ages to parse.
"Not keen on a pop", is "Off each"
"A pop" means each. With "nb" in the middle.
"Offenbach"
A bit of a struggle today!

Yes, Rusty - it's our 'great minds' again! I gave Elle a few nudges as I thought she could be staring balefully at these last clues.

Hi, Rusty!
It is a good job that you have come to my rescue, else I should have been banging my head against the wall!
To me, "Teflon" is something that coats a non- stick frying pan!
I would never have got that clue!
But yes, you are of course right....there is a double meaning!
I wondered about "Tiger Moth" from my crossers......but didn't see the anagram, and couldn't understand the "woolly bear" reference, so discounted it.
I've never heard of "a pop" meaning "each"?
Having " a pop" at something means "having a go".........?
I am "living and learning" today!
What time is Miss ATW coming for tea?

Hello, Malone!
Thank you for your input!
You are so right !
My "staring balefully" at those remaining clues sums it up perfectly!

Miss ATW has just left.
We had a good chat about the state of the World!
I had haggis and chips.
Do you remember John Gotti, the NY mobster.
He was known the "Teflon Don" because of the not guilty verdicts he kept getting.
None of the charges would "stick"!

Hi, Rusty!
I can follow the logic behind "Teflon Don"..... but "a pop" meaning "each" makes no sense to me....?
Language derivation is distinctly odd! !
Haggis sounds good!
I wish our chip shop would sell it!
We had sausages and fried potatoes for dinner!
I am looking forward to the tennis highlights tomorrow....I shall set the recorder in case I am busy or out.
I don't know who will be playing?

Hi, Rusty!
I have tracked down a tennis schedule for tomorrow.......although on BBC2 I shall only to get to see 90 minutes of Highlights.
I don't recognise many of the women players, although Maria is to play Angelique Kerber.
There should be three good men's matches though.
Djokovic v Ramos
Gasquet v Federer
Berdych v del Potro
I hope the BBC will show at least parts of these , although obviously coverage will be very brief.
I'm setting the recorder to catch what tennis I can throughout the week!
