Everything but 10dn solved without resorting to the forum, which I am quite amazed by! What a super puzzle!

....and now I can't work out why I couldn't see that...

Finally finished, just outstanding. The reference for the quote being in the second grid bring the cherry on the cake.

Only loose end for me is the wordplay for 3d?

Sh, shortened (near, almost) word for exist followed by reversal of rational. Remainder is definition

not 100% but i have two letters which is nearly "exist" and then four letters which is "rational" upset

Thanks dodgepot and candledave, makes sense. Couldn't get past the first 4 letters being an anagram of near

That threw me for a long while, too, and it was the last clue I parsed

Just took another look at the two grids, and noticed an Easter egg I assume, but it hasn’t been mentioned here. The first three words of the thematic material appear in the first grid.

I've only been able to get to this one today. Super clever, and the Easter egg just caps it off.

I have no complaint with the surface readings or the obscurity of some words or meanings. Some other puzzles don't meet this quality even without the constraints here.

There appears to be no specific instruction to delete the thematic words in the top and bottom rows which seems strange. What do others think?
