Your "y" is wrong, and would be deleted even if it were right. The second entry at 6A is the one with the forename included.

Thanks to those who have contributed to this thread, I have a complete grid. I cannot, however, parse: 2ii Contents of coach A (7); 6i Gegrar (8) so any hints on these would help.

I really look forward to the appearance of a Maskerade puzzle in the Guardian over the holiday period. The ingenuity is impressive but sometimes I think the clueing lets him/her down. Is 3downii simply a matter of changing the letters and finding a word that fits? on 2acrossii is the team indicated by just two identical letters? Also I couldn't find the nautical sway or rock for 10downi - again an assist would be welcome.

Sorry to be a grump. Am I alone in this view? But many thanks for a good workout. As Mrs Seal says: it cost very little and there is no mess to be cleaned up afterwards at a time when the house looks nice for the arrival of the pups and families.

Thanks Jono, I understood how to parse it, but couldn't (and still can't) think of that synonym.

Thanks Jono and Prospero, I hadn't thought to put the joiner at the start!

Hi Prospero. Thanks again for your hints but my Hungarian clue on my grid starts with a B. Unless 'dots dismissal' is wrong

Like you Williamseal I look forward to a Maskarade special or in fact any of his puzzles .
After the never to be matched Araucaria he is my favourite compiler. Still remember his Christmas special with twelve days of Christmas as theme 2019 or was it 2022?
Enjoying the challenge of this in between festive preparations.
Seasons greetings to all and thank you Maskarade for an ingenious Christmas present.

barny - dot's dismssal was revealed very early in this thread - maybe you have the B in the wrong place? Or maybe I'm just wrong - as jono and barretter have pointed out - thanks to both!

Barny, I think your 5d(i) may be incorrect there is a B and not PT

Williamseal, in 2ii, think of another word for a coach on a railway train, omit the first and last letters and add "a" for a Spanish composer.
For 6a(i) divide the answer into 3 parts: 3-2-3 and you get Gegrar - Australian composer.
