32a - ''wrong'' in the legal sense (4 letters, minus the first) around 3 letters for ''chat'' around the ''first person'' in the grammatical sense - and ''it'' in the def in the sexual sense.

I think I have now completed this, but am completely underwhelmed by the GWIT and gridstaring required to identify the “character”. Last week was similar: grid filling OK, then too much fiddling about to complete, so I didn’t bother.

eenk - not really a GWIT.

Go to relevant wiki - look for 6 letter long characters and then try and find in grid.

Thanks drxx, perfect assistance. Sadly, Chambers doesn’t give me any possibility for the first letter of 29d with my four checked entries. I have 32d thanks to your help, but don’t get the nob.

The old thieves usually start with 'foot....' (but their last 4 letters suffice.

Sorry, oompa - 32a 'Nob' as in hilltop (archaic) 4 letters minus the first - sounds like a tragic/notorious American 'grassy...' one (5 letters).

Sorry not to reply to your earlier comment, drxx, I missed it. You are of course right that geometry is irrelevant, as six cells can form neither an ellipse nor a circle, as they only touch at corners. Either shape can be drawn through them, but ring was probably a good choice as it is non-specific.
