Answer is Latin - extra letter is in the synonym for arrived (around 'gold').
'Patterns' is 5 letters - replace 'p' with 'on' (abbrev) and remove the duplicated letter. The def is a bit whimsical - like yesterday's 'chipper' for Donatello (in The Times, I think). Whatever next.

Great fun. Not finished but got the theme, and enjoying the last lap.

Hats off to the setter!

All done, except that I cannot parse the "Trash bar" clue. I believe I need to remove the letter which begins the last word of the message, but I still cannot crack it. A hint would be appreciated.

'Thrash' (not trash) - yes, remove that letter from a 5 letter word that usually has religious connotations (it's a double def clue).

Thanks drxx. Sorry about the thrash/trash typo. I thought the second definition was a bit tenuous.

Me too, 0pt0 (but for the very last sentence of its rather lengthy entry...}.

Can't remember whether I've already posted, but I very much enjoyed this. The loose end for me is the setter. I think I understand the relevance of the title. But it seemed that someone earlier in the thread had also figured out the significance of the setter being described as [tba]. Is that right, or am I imagining it?

Think it’s just the pseudonym - nothing more to it

There are only two shortenings, earmaniac - sorry to be pedantic but neither is an abbreviation as such (unless you have something else in mind). One is an informal word for a longer term and the other is an accepted shortened form (I think).
