cockie - which orientation does the grid have - this could be my challenge?

I have been thinking that the grid is "facing" upwards - however i now wonder whether i need to look at with the grid "facing" down...

if i do that, it may be starting to come together (the representation, the setter name hasnt hit me yet)

Can anybody clarify that there are two different but connected words that fill the spaces in the grid. I can see there is no ambiguity about where one of the words can go (2 separate places) creating 4 new words but the other word can go in three places creating one new word in each case. Is that correct?

i am using only a single word mullingar - the last word of the message from the 16 letters has two meanings, and this word can apply to both.

Thank you Andyp. I see now where the same word can fit 5 times leaving 7 new words. For what its worth i imagine it from above facing north

If that's your orientation, mullingar, then you are probably fairly young too.

What a great puzzle. A real challenge, some of the clues were very testing indeed. It was fun!
