Very clever compilation from a great compiler this week. I must admit to never thinking of a masculine 6 down and it threw me, always thought of the feminine version, which may be still latent sexism lurking about. COD 5 down..

Started about an hour ago and got about five including the two easy anagrams referred to by Brendan, but thought I'd have a look at the Forum to see if it was just me finding it hard - already over 70 threads to wade through and very few hints.

I've got 16d, but not 11ac as I'm not sure where Mary Whitehouse comes in. I've not got 24ac yet so can't see how the theme works. I must check out my rhyming slang book. I've got three across clues, but can't see the connection.

I guessed at the answer to 22d, but couldn't see the biscuit at first.

Do I need to anagramise the odd letters in 2D?

Hi Roof,
The wordplay in 11d comes from “ends in” of what follows.
Re 2d, yes, those letters are part of the fodder for the anagram.

Unlike you, Roof, I started a few hours back and am about 3/4 done. It really repays the effort if you've the time. Some very funny, clever and risque clues.

I was also a fan of the films of 23 - which helped.

Thanks for all the discussions above, which helped, too.

Well I've done the bottom half now including 24ac. I'd never heard of 23d, but Google helped.

Thanks Jono. Ill have a go at that anagram.

Perhaps I could have a hint for 7ac and 9ac to help me with the north west corner.

Time to get the washing in. That always stimulates the brain!

7A two meanings, first four words have a medical connotation then Europe!
9A parses 3,6. First three letters is a four letter word with the first letter removed.

7ac is a double definition, one being "Europe (for example)".

9ac: defn "Meaning", parses as 3 ("clue" with first letter dropped), 6 ("finish").

I have come across 7a more often in its negative form, in the way that inconvenient is the negative of convenient.

In 9a the first word of the clue is the definition.

Many thanks to Cymro and Geeker

I had got 2d wrong which didn't help with getting either 7 or 9ac, but now I have done them and finished. I had also been trying to get the cockney rhyming slang for banking into 4d and it wouldn't go. I have never heard of 4d (after all I am a woman).

FOI was 3d, LOI was 1d, CODs are 20ac and 22d (neither particularly tricky).

Please can we have an easier one next week.
