Hi rocky
22d isn’t so obvious. It parses as 2,2,2, the first being the first half of a synonym for man and the second the first half of an American type of biscuit.

Sorry Brendan - we crossed of course. Would only add that Half Man Half Biscuit is one of my favourite bands, so the surface of the clue , which threatened to mislead me, pleased me.

No problem, it's not one I've had but I do seem to remember it playing a big part in an episode of South Park some years ago.

Plus, I initially thought it ended in an L for some bizarre reason!?

Thanks both. A bit of a poor clue but having just got 4d and 12a
I will forgive Brockwell that. Two great clues among many in fact. Enjoying this.

I didn't enjoy this, probably because of the way I solved it. I just had 10 and 11 until I looked at this thread. The discussion on 24 pointed the way and confirmed 12, so I was able to get some more. However I got most of the across solutions by putting 24 and my crossers in a wordsearch.

Never heard of 23. Favourite 19, as I constructed it bit by bit from the wordplay.

I may be too innocent. I got 4 from the wordplay and 12, but what is the definition?

Haven't come across 19 before apart from a car my mum used to have.

I’m afraid we’re back to two-step rhyming slang, chrise. ‘Merchant’ is the ‘definition’ but you need to add a word to it to get the rhyme.

I’d never heard of 23 either, Chrise, but I worked it out from the crossers, and before I got 8, which I correctly assumed must provide an anagrind. Then Googled to confirm.
