Ah thank you Jono!

Late as usual: I got as far as we could, read all 100 posts (thank you all for various hints) and have almost finished. Stuck on 18d: s*a* b*a*, and can't understand 1d: end of clue is definition, fits 3 crossers, but how does the wordplay work?

FOI: 3, COD: 5, LOI will be 18 if I get some help.

1 6 letter word for a predicament, with the last letter missing, then A
18 always amuses me - the words are "eye-rhymes", but pronounced differently. It's an actor.

Thanks, chrise. I can understand 1d now, and have an actor answer for 18 though don't get the wordplay!

Pamd, If you say the actor's name the way Dr Spooner would have said it, you get two words which mean the same as the two "definition" words.
