You're right of course. Serves me right for not using SI units. The answer I had did seem a little geeky for a crossword.

I have also spotted the special feature, which seems obvious now. I solved it fairly early on and then forgot all about it, but I remember thinking the clue was rather strange.

I went through the exact same thought process, Rainman - both for 8a and the theme:-)

What is the direction of all the solutions that follow the solution to the clue in question?

You have to think of the clue as having personality, if you see what I mean. See also those riddles that go ‘my first is in sun but also in moon’. Does that help?!

(On reflection it’s perhaps a bit glitchy I think, because ‘those’ refers to solutions whereas ‘my’ seems to refer to the clue)

I think I see what you mean Rogissimo, "those going my way" is referring to other clues 'like me', so to speak.
