Not a familiar theme to me, so I learnt something, which is half the fun for me. (Like weeks when the reference is a poem I’ve never read or a bit of history I don’t know).
One of the additional applications confounded me for a while. As a hint, one follows its grid entry and one precedes its entry.

Thanks Quisling and Jono; at £1 for three months it's a real bargain. It took me a little while to find the Listener, but I'm there now. For anyone else who wishes to follow suit, go to puzzles, crossword club, specialist.

I have almost filled the grid, but just need to solve 20 across and 2 down. I have found 6 clashes, the resolution of which could spell a name which has associations with the "words" which need to be added to the two thematic clues. I am therefore inclined to think that there are no further clashes. I have found 21 misprints and I believe that the 22nd is within one of the two clues I have not yet solved. How am I doing?

Very well, Opt0. My only caveat is that both your unsolved clues contain clashes, so you have an extraneous one somewhere else

Sorry, I meant misprints, not clashes

Thanks Quisling. I have now solved those two outstanding clues. I had, in fact, only previously found 20 misprints. I had foolishly double-counted the first misprint from the down clues. Now for the end-game!

Out of fairness to the setter I should have qualified my negative response by saying the instructions were clear, and the clues generally very fair. I didn't find them especially hard on the whole, so I certainly did not find the puzzle a slog. It seemed average difficulty.

I think I understand what to do for the end game, but I do not see how the relevant letters can be described as "paired". At # 20 Hotelwhiskey says it is connecting X - X, Y - Y, etc., implying that the letters at the ends of the lines will be the same. In my grid, this will not be the case. However, I can see why we must prevent the lines from obscuring the original letters.

If your message correctly identifies the grid locations where the straight lines need to be drawn, 0pt0, you should then be able to draw lines connecting ten pairs as HW7 says in @20. The lines will not be parallel, but will cross
