THE CLUES
Requests for help should normally include the clue itself, the number of letters in the answer and details of any you already have. Any special instructions or additional information should be included.
NB Hints only please, no answers.

THE THEME
Requests may be made here for GENTLE NUDGES only towards the theme. 'Gentle nudges' is hard to define, of course - give enough to help, not enough to reveal too much. The theme itself should not be disclosed.

If you feel that too much information has been given in a post or in a reply, please say so on the thread before contacting Admin.

The Listener is a unique puzzle, please treat it with the respect it deserves.

Mid-level puzzle in terms of difficulty, with some quirky clues and an unusual theme, which doubtless won’t please everyone. An unambiguous finish, though, and 38a did make me laugh

I really disliked this one too - there are far too many practitioners of this discipline setting crosswords and editing them. Keep it up and you'll take all of the fun out of them for the vast majority of solvers (I know you make up a fair chunk of the online community but I'm pretty sure there's a more eclectic mix in the wider world).

I wished I knew what “In two clues the definition refers to the answer (entered normally) with an added application of the construction” means. Coincidentally, there are two clues I don’t understand.

Personally, I think the end game is both clever and beautiful. But I was already familiar with the name formed by the clashes.

Fyellin - I’m guessing that the added application referred to is relevant to how the non-English answers are presented typographically on a computer.

I also enjoyed the non-ambiguity mentioned earlier - thanks setter.

I also wish I knew what “In two clues the definition refers to the answer (entered normally) with an added application of the construction” means.
There is the possibility that these two clues mean I have missed something. I can see the two definitions which I have removed and I think I have solved one of the clues left but I am none the wiser.

You’re looking for two clues whose grid answers do not fit the definition until a word is added to them. Each of those words to be added is, as Hawk says, a practical application of the construction.

I agree it could perhaps have been more clearly put, but when you see it you know it’s right.

I have numerous problems with this as follows
1. I have no clashes in one half of the grid, I'm not saying if that is the LH,RH,upper or lower half, but it only applies to one of those
2. I have 10 misprints (excluding 13d at the moment) in the down clues, but I am sure that that is incorrect.
3. I haven't a scooby on 13d, unless there are several clashes
4. I think there is an 'F' in the misprints, but I can't find it - but I can't parse the clue where I think it is.
5. I have only found 6 clashes so far, which worries me

Are points 1 and 2 correct?

Gitto, as many have barely started I am uncomfortable answering such detailed questions on here. Drop me a line at patmarktwonineoneatyahoodotcom if you like

Thanks Quisling, I wasn't looking for hints on any of the points, just yes or no for points one and two. My post was really just a brain dump of my problems - I totally respect, and hopefully adhere to, minimising direct hints to either the theme or answers.
