I believe letter moves from 1st word to 2nd. Def is greeting. Four letter first word followed by final letter of 2nd.

Just to offer up my twopenneth on this thread, personally I don't come here for direct answers, just hints.

Can we please return it to a hints thread? Surely if someone really needed an answer, someone could PM or email it to them?

I would welcome a hint on 24d: which word loses a letter? Tx

Specs. First word moves a letter within itself.

Thanks for my replies everyone. I have 28a now and will work on 10 and 29. Think I know what 29d greeting must be, with slightly unusual spelling, but can't see why first four = port.
