All finished apart from 26a, which, in spite of all the discussion, I still can't see. I can't find anything in Chambers which relates the probable answer to the 3-letter word left after removal of the letter.

definitely straight lines, a bit of playschool required.

CS75 - I suspect, like I did, you're trying to make S fit as the first letter. It's not. Try later in Chambers.

Steady, albeit slow, progress, with the message, in its archaic spelling, revealed.
Help still needed though, on 12ac and 7d.
Thanks

Ploughty - To avoid future frustration, you should know that in spite of the way these threads are titled, this community is reluctant to just give out the actual answers to the clues. So don't be surprised if you request the actual answer to a clue and all you hear is silence or hints.

If you want someone to just give you an answer, I suggest including your email address and I am sure someone will send it to you privately...

Buzzb, I have some questions. What is the point of having 2 columns if both only give hints? Did you read administrators comment 2 weeks ago? She said to me that the problem was individuals making the rules: she makes the rules,. Do you recommend putting e-mail on a public forum?

I am just telling you the reality of these two threads - not my personal opinion. People have tried to get the moderator to tweak the thread titles.

It is clear that the other thread is intended to be like answerbank - and give nothing away. So in spite of the title, when people give hints there other people get upset and when people ask for hints there, other people tell them they have answered in this thread. People want the first thread to be a place where they can go and be assured that they won't see any spoilers.

That leaves this thread as the place where hints are provided and INDIRECT answers given. A lot of the community uses this thread to get gentle hints but still do not want their fun spoiled by blatant answers.

That's just the way it is...I'm not saying whether that is good or fair or stupid or whatever. Just don't be surprised if you ask for an explicit answer and no one responds.

No, I don't recommend putting your email address in this forum, but some people do when they want a private answer.
