Got a fair bit of help on grid fill I admit from forum, but got all the thematic stuff myself so feeling quite pleased. On to IQ which hasn't had a lot of comment this week.

I have finally managed to fill the grid, although I could not parse the Symbol down clue, despite the hint earlier in this thread. The message does not quite work for me as I have the fourth word beginning with G, whereas I am fairly certain it should begin with J. Has anybody else had the same problem?

Opt0, no - the fourth word is 100% correct....

Re the Symbol clue, it is an &Lit clue made up of four parts:

a symbol for Symbol
one being...for example...
note
the end of echo.

I agree that the fourth word does (strangely) begin with a G: the method of transmission involved couldn't cope with every letter, so a few subs had to be used.

I'm pleased to read Schorley's parsing of the Symbol clue, as that's how I parsed it too, but with reservations. S for Symbol? I can't find it in Chambers other than that the app has a "symbol" heading for any letter that's stands for something (in this case, entropy, 7 or 70, Siemens etc.).
