Slightly more generous hints to the theme may also may be given here - in response to a request, not unsolicited. It is, of course, tricky to define 'slightly more generous', but I feel it's worthwhile trying to get the balance right.

I’m surprised there are no other entries here so far, apart of course from Malone, to whom thanks as usual.

A bluebottle is a cop. This is inside a word meaning lines without the N.

I now have the penultimate down solution, but no ODE so stuck on the solar disc.

Does the warning about not entering horizontal bars suggest that some down entries may overlap? I can see a possible case of this.
