ok - I took it as trying to assist with the location of the first group more specifically by saying that it was .....wards of the accent

I took it to mean the accent too. The specific wording "accent is required" is I think significant - usually we're told to ignore accents.

Never has such an innocuous preamble statement been so necessary as to be so meticulously applied.

As an aside - Googling “essential [thematic]” produces the result as below.

Probably a coincidence, but the pictures are pretty. There I was thinking I knew everything.

Without giving too much away, is it possible to describe what the setter means by 'interlocked? Does it just mean joined at the edges? I have what I think are the shapes remeniscent of a bank logo but am failing to arrange things so that a 'group of x in the centre' has x in it.
