Greetings on a cold and puzzly night! Only been here for a couple of weeks and I’m wondering at what point in the puzzle cycle is it polite to ask for parsing explanations? Once everyone has had a week or so, to prevent spoilers?

This is the “may contain answers” thread so ask away any time. Most people will give you a hint instead of the full parsing.

As a matter of fact I was going to ask for help myself. I can’t parse the clue Jerry takes 12 ounces...

I should say that I have the answer and the definition is grassed; it’s just the parsing I can’t see.

Hi mprs, it's an abbreviation for a chamberpot (jerry) + a Roman unit of weight.

Thanks, mattrom. I never heard of jerry = chamber pot.

I’ve ground to a halt, have the centre section complete plus NW and SE, but struggling with other areas. For a start can I have a tip for ‘Free from duty’ and ‘Stretching out’? Can’t decide if the latter starts D or E.

stretching out starts with "C" ...stretching ones necl

free from duty ... starts with "I" and is 12 letters long before fitting in grid
